ROADKILL MADONNA
This piece started as one of the first squirrels I ever received. Without any real taxidermy experience, I cleaned and dried the carcass using mummification techniques that took several months to complete.
I liked the presentation of Glamour Guts and continue to be drawn to the juxtaposition of ornate embellishments with the spectre of death and decay. The Roadkill Madonna is comprised not only of a squirrel, but also includes repurposed vintage costume jewelry, sparrow wings, pigeon, raccoon, and rabbit feet, a rabbit skull, starling skull, and part of a deer mandible. She intercedes on behalf of all creatures whose lives have tragically been cut short by vehicular means.
